Three Amigos Mexican Grill and Cantina offers authentic, high-quality Mexican food for a low price. Located in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood — at 2917 Central Avenue — Three Amigos Mexican Grill is one of the best places in Charlotte for Mexican food.

The restaurant has nothing to do with the classic 1986 movie ¡Three Amigos! — starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short — other than the Mexican theme. Of course, Three Amigos Mexican Restaurant does not have a specific “theme” because the restaurant is authentic Mexican. There is no need to fool customers into thinking the dishes served are traditional; it’s very obvious that the food and atmosphere are authentic.

Three Amigos has a very large menu that specializes in enchiladas and seafood. There are nearly a dozen different types of enchiladas stuffed with chicken, steak and chorizo; and eight different seafood dishes, including Camarones a la Diabla, which is shrimp in a spicy sauce; and Sopa de Mariscos, a seafood soup.

Three Amigos serves a number of “Main Dishes,” including Carne Asada, marinated grilled steak served with rice and beans; Pollo en Mole, a chicken breast covered in Mole sauce; and Un Chile Relleno, a green pepper filled with rice, beans and cheeses. The restaurant also has several fajita options as well as seven combination plates.

One important part of menu is the “Antojitos Mexicanos” portion, which means “traditional Mexican fast food.” This section is filled with lower-cost items, including gorditas, tostados, tacos, quesadillas, and tortas — a type of Mexican sandwich.

HelloCharlotte Tip: Three Amigos has a special late night menu from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. This menu has several Dominican dishes as well, including Chimi Churri, Riki and empanadas.
