The Best Hot Dogs in Charlotte, NC
Where can one go to find the best hot dogs in Charlotte, NC? There’s nothing more American than a hot dog. They are perfect for the spring and summer months at cookouts, they go great with a beer, and they provide a nice handheld meal that is totally mobile. The following outlines some of the best hot dogs in Charlotte, NC, and where one can find each one.
The diner, which has been located at 309 West 4th Street in Uptown Charlotte for 84 years, typically wins the “Best Hot Dog” category of any award section in mainstream Charlotte media outlets. Regulars will order hot dogs “All the Way,” which includes ketchup, mustard, coleslaw, onions and chili. Green’s Lunch is specifically a lunch establishment that mainly caters to Uptown employees as the restaurant closes each day at 4 p.m.
Pinky’s Westside Grill
Located in a former car mechanic shop at 1600 West Morehead Street, Pinky’s Westside Grill has some of the highest quality and most unique hot dogs in all of Charlotte. The “Southern 500 Dog” is a flattop grilled hot dog with mustard, chili, slaw and onion; the “Reuben Dog” is topped with brown mustard, sauerkraut, 1000 island dressing and Swiss cheese; and the “Stray Dog” is a veggie dog covered in veggie chili. Perhaps the star of the “Weiner Wonderland” portion of the menu is the “Viking Corn Dog” — covered with an incredible batter and then deep fried. Pinky’s also has the “first vegetarian corn dog,” according to their menu, called “The One and Only.”
KT’s New York
KT’s New York serves some of the absolute best hot dogs in the Queen City, but is not a traditional establishment by any means. KT’s New York is a pop-up hot dog stand that is located in the parking lot of the Little Hardware Co. — at 1400 South Mint Street — in South End Charlotte. The vendor grills hot dogs, bratwursts, Italian sausage, and smoke sausages each day until approximately 3 p.m., and is extremely popular with the construction workers who shop at the Little Hardware Co.
