Cantina 1511: Authentic Cuisine from Both Northern and Southern Mexico

Cantina 1511 is a Mexican restaurant that strives to create the most authentic dining experience for both northern and southern Mexican favorites. With two locations — at 1511 East Boulevard in Dilworth and 7708 Rea Road in the Stonecrest Shopping Complex in Ballantyne — Cantina 1511 is one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in the Queen City.

The menu is separated into two main areas: “Authentic Mexican,” which are plates made the traditional Mexican way; and “Tex Mex,” which are culinary creations of Mexican-American influence. Both sections of the menu have tacos, burritos and enchiladas, but the spices used differ dramatically depending on which side of the menu diners choose from. “Tradicionales” choices are on the “Authentic” side, and “Platos Gringos” are options on the “Tex Mex” side.

Cantina 1511 also has a “Family Style” option for larger groups. These options include a choice of several appetizers served family style, with the choice of either a platter of tacos or enchiladas. The restaurant has won a number of awards from local media outlets for “Best Mexican,” but the option for family style — along with the private and semi-private dining rooms for bigger gatherings — have also lead to Cantina 1511 winning awards for “Best Group Dining.”

Cantina 1511 has a fully-stocked bar with drink specials every day. These specials change each month, but examples of specials that have been promoted in the past include $8 Top Shelf “The 1511” Margaritas, any draft beer for $2.50, and half-priced bottles of wine nights.
