Dish it Out: "Paint Your Own Pottery" for All Ages
Dish it Out is a locally owned “Paint Your Own Pottery” studio with two locations in Charlotte. The pottery studio has continually won awards in local media for “Best Place to Have a Party” for both kids and work categories. Dish it Out offers a large selection of bisque-ware to paint and glaze, along with studios for creating mosaics, glass fusing and clay throwing.
Dish it Out has two locations — in Myers Park at 117 Middleton Drive and in Ballantyne in the Stonecrest Shopping Center at 7828-C Rea Road — but each store has slightly different hours. Make sure to check out the Dish it Out “Contact Us’” page on their website for specific studio hours.
The concept of Dish it Out is simple for the “Paint Your Own Pottery” aspect of the studio. The studio fee, which includes the prices of paint and supplies along with the clay firing cost, is hourly and per person, with a maximum charge that ensures visitors don't spend too much.
Individuals then choose from almost 1,000 different pieces of bisque-ware — already-fired pots, mugs, or bowls that are a blank cream color perfect for painting — with a wide range of individual costs. Typical costs are $9 to $15 for something like a coffee mug, depending on the size.
“Artists” then get the opportunity to paint whatever they want on the piece of bisque-ware. When finished, a Dish it Out employee will collect the piece and will take down the artist’s personal information. The pieces are then fired in a kiln, where the finished product can be picked up at the studio within seven days.
Dish it Out truly shines with their “Creative Parties” designed for birthdays, office get-togethers, bridal parties, and baby showers. The cost for a party for an adult group is per painter, plus the cost of the pottery piece, while children’s parties are more affordable per painter.
The Myer’s Park location also has pottery wheel classes for both adults and children. Experienced students and potters can rent wheel time at this location.
HelloCharlotte Tip: Dish it Out offers corporate teambuilding events that include an employee to facilitate along with catering from a neighborhood restaurant.
