Sammy's Deli & Neighborhood Pub: Main Street America at its best
Jul 8, 2010
Sammy’s Deli & Neighborhood Pub is one of those small establishments on “Main Street America” that is really hard not to love. Sammy’s has great food, friendly servers, and an endless supply of drinks.
The deli and pub opened in 1994 and is one of the most popular places in the small strip of Downtown Belmont — which is only a few blocks on South Main Street. Although the restaurant is always packed, there usually is no wait to get a table.
Sammy’s offers up plenty of food for any appetite. Not happy with just one or two types of burgers, Sammy’s serves up 12 different types of half-pound creations. You can get a burger topped with chili and coleslaw — known as the “Tarheel Burger” — or one covered with two fried eggs — known simply as the “Steak and Egg Burger.” The gigantic burgers come with a side of fries and run $7.29 to $8.49.
Not in the mood for a burger? That’s OK because Sammy’s offers up 26 other types of sandwiches for $6.99 to $8.49 including a Pulled BBQ Pork sandwich, a Reuben, a Chicken Cordon Blue, and a Shrimp Po Boy. The menu description for the Shrimp Po Boy accurately states that the sandwich has “mounds of deep fried shrimp.” Mounds, and mounds, and mounds — all covered in melted Provolone cheese.
Sammy’s also has plenty of Appetizers and Salads, along with Pub Specialty entrees such as Fish n’ Chips, a Ribeye Steak, and Lasagna for $9.59 to $17.99.
The restaurant has “Happy Hour” half-prices appetizers from 4 pm to 7 pm during the week as well.
HelloCharlotte Tip: Sammy’s is perfect for a big group of friends as the centerpiece of the restaurant is a high top table that sits 12 people. Get there early though as once the table is claimed it rarely empties.
