Phat Burrito

Sometimes the name of a restaurant says it all. No explanation is needed for what type of food it serves. No extra marketing needs to be done to convince possible diners to go there. When you hear the name, you automatically make up your mind.

That is certainly the case with Charlotte’s Phat Burrito.

The establishment is a small building at 1537 Camden Road painted bright yellow with a mural on the side of the stone and brick restaurant. Inside, the restaurant is brightly painted, but no other décor is really needed — except for the framed certificates hanging proudly to show off the dozens of awards the restaurant has received as being a favorite among local magazines and newspapers.

Locals seem to agree with the Charlotte media’s choice to award Phat Burrito with so many distinctions, as the restaurant always has a line. It’s worth the wait once you try one of their “namesake meals,” a 7” x 3” “phat burrito” filled with your choice of steak, chicken or roasted vegetables.

Phat Burrito only serves up a few items. Giant burritos, soft tacos, quesadillas and tortilla salads. They pride themselves on their limited menu and even have a chalkboard with the statement, “We don’t have burgers, fries, hot dogs, ranch, Texas Pete, etc.” 

Burritos, Quesadillas and Tortilla Salads are $6 - $7 (depending on your choice of meat) and Soft Tacos run $2 - $3 each. The restaurant has a few booths inside, and a patio that is usually full when the weather is warm.

HelloCharlotte Tip: The actual parking lot for Phat Burrito is small and almost impossible to maneuver an SUV or truck through. A larger parking lot is across the street from the restaurant, and there is parking on nearby streets.
