Discovery Place: A Learning Adventure for the Young (and Young at Heart)
Jan 7, 2010
Charlotte's Discovery Place, which opened in 1981, is the ideal place to make learning fun for your child-- and you likely be having fun, too. Whether you're crawling around in a giant intestine to see how food is digested or walking through the aquarium tunnel to observe life under water, your senses will be tantalized by Discovery Place's interactive exhibits.
Explore the Simple Machines exhibit as kids get to experience firsthand the wonder of inclined planes, pulleys and levers. The kids will have so much fun that they'll forget altogether that they're also in an enriching learning environment.
Climb, jump, roll, stomp and feel your way through the Kids Place, as the establishment's youngest visitors can learn through play. From dress up to crafts to blocks, the Kids Place is perfect for even the smallest learners.
The Dome Imax Theater that is located within the Discovery Place takes visitors on a one-of-a-kind ride without having to leave their seats. The unique filmography makes viewers feel as if they're moving above the rainforest canopy or under the deep blue sea at what seems like lightning speed.
The Rainforest and Aquarium exhibits, which feature wildlife in reproductions of their natural habitats and hands-on labs, are scheduled to reopen after an extensive renovation in the Spring of 2010.
The Shipwreck exhibit features real-life buried treasure and ship remnants and artifacts recovered from the ocean floor that are hundreds of years old. Big and little pirates alike love this exhibit.
Enjoy a meal at the Community Cafe, which highlights healthy and delicious foods.
